Line and wrinkle treatment
Life is about smiling and being happy. However, sometimes when we laugh, smile or frown we use muscles in the face that are creased or contracted into folds of skin that form movement wrinkles more commonly known as dynamic wrinkles.
The well-known dynamic wrinkles are “crow’s feet”, frown or “worry lines” in the forehead and between the eyebrows. The creasing and contracting of the muscle over time can cause deep and permanent wrinkles.
If your dynamic wrinkles make you look older than you are, there is now a way to soften these lines without surgery, scars and little recovery time.
Wrinkle treatment consists of injections to reduce the frown lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows and the crow’s feet around the eyes.
Line and wrinkle treatments have been used as cosmetic treatments since the late 1980’s and has revolutionised the industry providing a treatment with virtually no recovery time and very few risks.
BOTOX is a brand name for a form of Botulinum toxin Type A, which is produced by the bacteria, Clostridium Botulinum
What does it do?
A minute quantity of Botulinum Toxin A is injected into the muscles that cause these dynamic lines.
The injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscle and as a result the muscle relaxes and the lines and wrinkles become smoother and less pronounced.
These treatments are simple and effective with minimal swelling or redness and have a proven track record for effectiveness. You would expect to see results in 4-7 days.
What it doesn’t do
Wrinkle injections cannot lift or plump loose or sagging skin.
These areas can be treated with Dermal Filler injections to plump the lines
Wrinkle injections and dermal fillers can be combined to give a non-surgical facelift effect.
Dermal Fillers are offered by our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner
What is involved?
Following a private consultation with our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner you will be assessed and advised of the most suitable treatment for you.
Treatment can take as little as 20 minutes and you will be able to return to normal activities immediately afterwards.
The smoothing effects of the first treatment typically last for up to 3-4 months.
With repeated treatments the relaxed and softened effects will last longer.
The benefits of having anti-wrinkle treatment are likely to differ between individuals.
Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles already formed restoring a more youthful appearance.
Overtime the treatment re-educates the muscle so time between treatments will untreated areas of the face aren’t affected, so you can still smile and frown, but the skin on the treated areas won’t wrinkle as much as usual.
Following the treatment there is virtually no recovery time necessary; you can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment.
Not permanent and will naturally break down.
What you should know
Some patients may experience some tenderness, mild redness, swelling or bruising follow the treatment but these are only short-term effects that last only a few days.
Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although treatments are not thought to be dangerous, treatment is best avoided during this time.
If you have any diseases, involving nerve damage or muscle weakness, line & wrinkle treatments are not recommended. It is also important to let your Practitioner know if there is a family history of such diseases – for example Myasthenia Gravis or if you have previously suffered from Bell’s Palsy.
How regularly should I have line and wrinkle treatment?
To ensure the best results long-term initial treatments should be approximately 3-4 months apart, and should there should be at least 12 weeks in between treatments.
