BAPRAS was founded in 1946, as the British Association
of Plastic Surgeons, with the objects of relieving sickness and
protecting and preserving Public Health by the promotion and development
of Plastic Surgery. The aim of the Association is to advance education in
all aspects of Plastic Surgery.

The Association holds scientific meetings, runs training courses, awards
scholarships and grants and owns the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive
and Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS) – formerly British Journal of Plastic Surgery.

Full membership of the Association is limited to those who hold, or who
have held, a Consultant NHS post in Plastic Surgery and have their names
on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons
(BAAPS)

BAAPS is a not-for-profit organisation, established for the advancement
of education and practice of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for public
benefit. In addition, one of its main objectives is to develop and encourage
the practice of high standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct
among members. With this in mind, members of BAAPS subject themselves
to annual audit of their practices and outcomes.

The Royal College of Surgeons of England is
committed to enabling surgeons to achieve and maintain the highest standards
of surgical practice and patient care.

To qualify and practise in any surgical specialty in the UK, a doctor must
first obtain a fellowship from the College (FRCS), before embarking on his/her
Specialty Training.

The College is responsible for supervising training of surgeons in approved
posts, providing educational and practical workshops for surgeons and other
medical professionals at all stages of their careers.
